So you inherited
a PC at work, and every time you install a new software package the setup program
thinks you are somebody else. Windows thinks so, too: Right-click My Computer,
select Properties, and someone else's name is staring you in the face. Here's
how you can change the name of the registered user and organization. Open your
registry and find the key below:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
When you click CurrentVersion, a set of values should appear in the right pane.
Look for RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization. Double-click either value
to edit its data.
The Usual Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems
that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use the information
provided at your own risk.
